Assistant Director for Library Systems, Multimedia Databases / OhioLINK, Columbus, OH (2005-present)

Assistant to the Library Director for Technology Initiatives / University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT (2004)

Under the direction of the Director of University Libraries, lead and participate in technology initiatives that enhance the University Libraries' services. In addition, represent the Director in meetings, forums and projects external to the Libraries, maintain an outward focus on activities and trends in the information science field, and work to establish connections between staff and new opportunities. Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with other library units to ensure that the full range of library expertise and resources are applied to building and managing technology initiatives that enhance the University Libraries' services.
• Lead or serve on library teams and in this role apply a wide range of skills and techniques in the areas of teaming and project management.
• Represent the Director in technology-related meetings, forums and projects external to the Libraries, including the Boston Library Consortium, the New England Council of Presidents, University Information Technology Services and other University settings.
• Write grant proposals and actively seek funding sources for select University Libraries' projects and initiatives.
• Participate in electronic forums as well as regional and national meetings concerning the conception, development, adoption and implementation of library technology standards, products and best practices, representing the University's interests in such settings.
• Seek opportunities for university, statewide, national and international partnerships.
• Explore issues surrounding the application of technology to academic/research libraries, anticipate future trends in an evolving information environment, and work to share that knowledge through regular presentations and publications.

Area Head, Library Information Technology Services / University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT (2002-2004)

Under the general direction of the Director of University Libraries, administered, coordinated and provided leadership in policy and program development for the Information Technology Services Area. This included direct responsibility for system-wide administration and management of electronic information systems and servers for all of the University Libraries as well as oversight responsibility for the Computer and Copy Services within the Homer Babbidge Library. Responsibilities included:

• Established and maintained Area goals, priorities and programs consistent with the University Libraries' mission and strategic initiatives.
• Supervised all Area staff, including hiring, training, revising job descriptions and setting goals and objectives for all personnel. Facilitated the Area's Steering Council and supported the Area's self-managed operational teams.
• Administered and oversaw Area operations including process analysis, resource allocation and evaluation of services.
• Participated in the development, testing and documentation of projects and coordinated the transition to production. Mentored or lead teams assembled from various library and campus areas and guided projects from concept to completion.
• In the role of project leader, developed plans, facilitated a team-oriented process leading to consensus-driven decision-making, ensured the creation of a system acquisition and maintenance strategy, coordinated tasks and supervised staff members assigned to projects.
• Actively pursued partnership opportunities with University departments and external institutions as well as opportunities that enhanced the visibility of the library's information systems and services.

Computer Services Librarian / University of Connecticut School of Law, Hartford, CT (2000-2002)

Provided library-focused computer services as well as web site development and academic/administrative computing support for the law school campus. Responsibilities included:

• Oversaw all library computing/networking services including CD-ROMs, Internet resources, computer assisted legal research and instruction tools and related telecommunication facilities.
• Managed and provided technical support for the library's Innovative Interfaces integrated library system and lead development of the WebPAC interface and related components.
• Developed and managed the library and law school web sites, including coordination of content from administrative offices, student groups and other contributors to the site.
• Supervised student employees.
• Evaluated technology needs of the library, academic and administrative computer users; analyzed, recommended and maintained hardware, software and data communication products used in the library and administrative departments.
• Coordinated with law school academic and administrative departments to implement and maintain administrative database tools and systems.

Library Systems Manager / Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH (1995-2000)

Responsible for information technology research and development which included analyzing, evaluating, recommending, beta-testing, developing, implementing, maintaining and supporting advanced-technology electronic information delivery systems and subsystems for CWRUnet as a part of the CWRU Electronic Learning Environment. Responsibilities included:

• Develoed and integrated leading-edge technologies into the Electronic Learning Environment.
• Implemented, maintained and improved information delivery services, including the CWRU/OhioLINK Innovative Interfaces integrated library system and other related systems.
• Supervised professional and student employees.
• Developed, tested and implemented unique and creative local software solutions when necessary to integrate and facilitate the use of new technologies as part of the research and learning activities of the university.
• Coordinated the implementation of collaborative online resources in the libraries of the University Circle institutions.
• Performed general technical support and training sessions for staff using the online systems and network applications.
• Worked with corporations and technology providers to beta test promising pre-release information technologies. Provided analysis, compiled feedback and actively campaigned for modifications necessary to develop useful applications for CWRU and the wider library community.

Library Systems Manager / Miami University, Oxford, OH (1991-1995)

Responsible for directing all areas of the Library Systems Office, including computer room operations, hardware and software maintenance, networking and telecommunications and system administration. Responsibilities included:

• Maintained the security, integrity and availability of the local INNOPAC library automation system, including maintenance of software configuration and tables, password authorizations, tape loads and profile changes.
• Supervised professional and student employees.
• Wrote custom code and installed software and hardware systems for patron access to electronic information and administrative staff functions in support of the library mission.
• Installed and maintained a CD-ROM Local Area Network based on the Novell LAN protocol and Gandalf Starport VT100-to-MSDOS gateway system.
• Managed public and library administrative networks.
• Served as the technical contact to systems-related vendors and organizations, both on and off-campus (most notably, served on the OhioLINK Technical Advisory Committee and as Miami's representative on the Lead Implementors group).
